The MTR is the rapid transit system serving Hong Kong. It stretches from the south in Hong Kong Island to the border with mainland China (such as at Lo Wu Station). Every weekday, it averages 4 million trips, making it the most popular mode of transport in Hong Kong. The majority of the original system opened in the late 1970s to the mid 1980s, before it was joined by the new Airport Express line to Hong Kong International Airport and the addition of former Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) lines.

King's Cross Station is a railway station first opened in 1852 that acts as a transfer point between London Underground and National Rail lines, forming one of Britain's largest transportation hubs. In modern times, it is most famous for being the filming location for the Hogwarts Express' Platform 9¾ in the Harry Potter films. The station was originally intended to be the London hub of the Great Northern Railway. The main part of the station from 1852 is still being used today.

Lo Wu Station is the northernmost station in Hong Kong and the northern terminus of the former colony's MTR system. Being next to the border with mainland China, it is possible to directly leave the station platform and clear customs, and connect directly to a corresponding rapid transit line across the border. However, this station is in the border area closed to most civilians; the only way to enter the area outside the stations would be to be a resident of Lo Wu or be en route to crossing the border into China.

The Seattle Center Monorail is a one-mile and two-station monorail system that connects Seattle Center to Westlake Center. It was built for the 1962 World's Fair and currently connects to the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. Near the line's northern terminus, the trains pass through a specially-designed hole in the Experience Music Project building. The system was designated a historical landmark by the city in 2003.

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station opened on July 1, 2010. It opened in conjunction with the Huning Intercity Line. It serves one third of rail traffic between Shanghai and Nanjing. The railway station is also linked to Shanghai's Hongqiao airport, which is the domestic airport for the city. In addition, Shanghai Hongqiao is going to be the terminus of the Beijing-Shanghai and Hunangzhou-Shanghai high speed lines, both of which are currently still under construction.

The Shanghai Metro is the urban rapid transit system for Shanghai, China's largest city. It opened in 1995. It was China's third city with a subway system, only after Beijing and Tianjin. The system now has 12 lines with 268 stations. It is currently the longest subway network in the world. It was expanded due to the 2010 World Expo. It is planned to have a total of 22 lines by 2020.

Caltrain is a commuter rail system serving the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Clara Valley. It operates approximately one train per hour, with more trains during rush hour and special events. The above photo was taken at Millbrae Station, which is the largest intermodal train station west of the Mississippi River and also serves the BART system.

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) system is a rapid transit service serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It connects the East Bay area with northern San Mateo County via the City of San Francisco. It is currently the 5th busiest metro rail system in the United States.

The Beijing Subway is the oldest and busiest subway system in Mainland China (and 6th busiest in the world) and second longest (after the Shanghai Metro). It was first proposed in 1953 and was built with help from the Soviet Union and East Germany. It started operations in 1969 and, like the Soviet Union, was built with both civilian and military uses in mind. After the Sino-Soviet split, Soviet experts withdrew from the project in the 1960s and the subway's development was halted almost completely due to other economic difficulties from the Great Leap Forward. In the next few decades, the system was plagued by (occasionally fatal) disasters from both natural and synthetic sources. However, in the 1990s, the system began to expand; in the years leading up to the 2008 Summer Olympics, it grew greatly in size as several lines were added. It currently has 9 lines and is planned to expand to 19 lines by 2015.

The Daejeon Subway is the newest subway system in South Korea and currently has only one line, with four additional lines being planned. The second line is planned to be a magnetic levitation train but no further information about it is available at the moment.

Daejeon Station is one of the major transportation hubs in South Korea, as the city lies in the intersection of the largest two railroad lines in the country. It is in this city that the two lines join together on its way towards Seoul Station. It is also a major station for the KTX bullet train.

The KTX (Korea Train eXpress) is the bullet train service for South Korea. It runs two main lines from Seoul/Yongsan: one goes to Busan and the other goes to Mokpo or Gwangju. Its top speed is 350 km/h, but it usually tops off around 300 km/h for safety reasons.

Hakata Port International Terminal is the only international ferry terminal in Fukuoka Prefecture and connects Japan with Busan, South Korea's Busan International Ferry Terminal. It is situated on the north side of the city of Fukuoka.
